While I was looking for care in 1990 I came across an advertisement for a Dr. Julie Chicks Suboxone Clinic in Grafton, Wisconsin. At first I was suspicious of the clinic for one reason: the name sounded familiar! When I finally went to the clinic it was a very busy office with many patients waiting patiently for a doctor. I soon learned that this clinic was named after the famous singer who had her own hit song about an addiction problem (and had a suboxone unit).
While visiting this Suboxone Clinic in Grafton, I was greeted warmly and given a quick tour of the entire facility. Upon my first look at the rows of cots and syringes filled with varying amounts of suboxone units, I immediately felt comforted knowing that if and when I needed a suboxone unit, I would be serviced by trained doctors. As I waited, I chatted briefly with the receptionist who told me about the other patients she had helped including a young man who was there on his birthday. He had come several times to the Suboxone Clinic just since his birthday.
After several minutes, I was called upon by the doctor. While he examined me, I noted the number of people that were waiting in line to see the doctor and the state of their health. While he was performing a routine examination, he suddenly asked me if I wanted a cup of coffee. Upon my suggestion, he handed me a cup of coffee and while he talked I noticed that he was wearing a shirt that said “Dr. Julie Chicks”. After he left, I realized that I had been treated like a celebrity at this amazing Cancer Treatment Center.
