Milky Chance was last year’s big German to U.S. music import. This year that spot is destined to be filled by AudioDamn!. The German-based, Austrian-originated trio of Oliver Wimmer on guitar and vocals, Ali Grumeth on guitar/bass/backing vocals, and Daniel Mudrack on drums has a tight sound. They also write catchy tunes too. The band’s self-titled Epic Records debut was released this past week and the four songs on the set showcase what they can do.
The EP is headlined by “Lights Out” and it’s similar to The Hives “Tick, Tick, Boom” and Blur’s “Song 2”. It’s a short and simple rock song that’s not very much longer than two minutes, but by the end of it you feel like you’ve been entertained for ten. The guitar on that song is spectacular, but the only thing better is the melody in the chorus of the song that Wimmer busts out. Outside of the lead single for the band, the EP has two great pop rock songs that have more of a funk vibe to them – “Brief Microsleep” and “Radar”. Both songs are solid efforts and they show something different from “Lights Out”. The last song on the EP, “Give It Up.” Is the perfect way to cap off a solid EP and it should be destined to be another single.
AudioDamn!’s debut single is one of the can’t miss listens early on this year and it should be enough to make the trio one of 2016’s breakthrough acts. If you love pop rock with an edge, this one’s for you.
