American Authors just dropped a five-song EP featuring singles they have been releasing over the past few months. Collectively the band shows off what they always have, the ability to write great songs that make you feel something and are easy to sing along to too.
All five of these songs fall in the category of great American Authors songs - the band has a great following, but their body of work is deserving of more. Here, songs like "Brick By Brick", "Counting Down", "Sky's The Limit" and "Microphone" are all tremendous songs worthy of listening to over and over again. Even the song featuring Seeb - "Best I Can" - is an amazing song too. The melodies from Zac Barnett and his band are insanely addictive… but what is cool about these songs is they are songs that American Authors haven’t really done before. These songs border on fun early 2000's dance-infused pop, R&B, and just simple pop. They bounce around all over the place on these five songs and that's part of what makes it such an enjoyable listen.
Counting Down's lone problem is that it's not a full-length album, hopefully with the release of this EP - that means there's another EP on the way in the next few months. Regardless, these five songs go well with what the band's done well in their catalogue and they're different enough to make the Counting Down era a somewhat different iteration of the band.
