Mt. Joy

Rearrange Us
Artwork

There's something special about Mt. Joy. They're an indie folk outfit with rock and soul leanings. Their music can be enjoyed by anyone who loves and appreciates good music but what they do is specifically catered to old souls. It's jam band music with a soul twist. Music isn't made like this anymore. On their latest album, Rearrange Us, Mt. Joy showcases just how special of a band they are.

Produced by Tucker Martine, Rearrange Us is special on a sonic level. The production here has a little bit of everything you want on a record from a band with a strong connection to older generations of music. Yes, sonically it's pleasing but there are a few flaws that are kept in for authenticity. It's a challenging line to balance but Martine and Mt. Joy pull that off here flawlessly.

The production is special but really, it's the band that's special here. There's something enchanting about Matt Quinn, Sam Cooper, and the rest of Mt. Joy. There's an undeniable chemistry that's amazing to listen to and there's something soothing on every level of every song. Songs like "Let Loose", "Every Holiday", "Bug Eyes" and "Come with Me" can speak to their audience on pretty much every level. Lyrically, sonically, even in a big instrumental jam breakdown, Mt. Joy is a pleasure to listen to.

Mt. Joy's Rearrange Us is a perfect album to listen to when you really want to dive into something with intelligent layers. There's a lot to digest here lyrically and musically and it makes for an album that just isn't made anymore.
