Ra Ra Riot’s latest album is the best of their career. There’s not a bad song among these twelve tracks. They’re all easy flowing, easygoing, alternative songs that show off Wes Miles’ ability to write songs and the band’s unique ability to throw something together that’s really unlike anything that any other band can do.
Ra Ra Riot is in rare form here. The first thing that you’re likely to notice is Miles’ vocal, and why wouldn’t you? He sings melodies that not anybody can sing. His voice is distinct and original to the point to where it borders something extraterrestrial. Plus, there’s something about the way the band has always been produced that makes his vocal that much different. There are vocal effects, but the engineering of how it’s recorded is just different. Really, that’s the best way you can describe the band, they’re just different.
Favorites on Superbloom include “Bad to Worse”, “Flowers”, “Bitter Conversation” and “Backroads” but there’s something unique and different about every song on this record and something new to listen for with every song that plays.
Ra Ra Riot’s Superbloom is the band’s best record to date. They’re pioneers of the indie genre these days. Ra Ra Riot didn’t become a staple in music like they probably should have, but they’re one of those influence bands that parented hundreds of other acts and that counts for something. Their latest record just proves how damn good they are.
