The Summer Obsession

This is Where We Belong
Artwork

This bright and breezy pop punk album from Jacksonville quartet The Summer Obsession could be described as uplifting if it wasn’t so generic. Every label it seems must have their own pop punk act in order to capitalise on the popularity of the genre. Although inoffensive, there is a familiar ring to songs like ‘Melt the Sugar’, ‘Over my Head’ or the seriously catchy ‘Do You Remember’. When you consider that their line up includes ex-Good Charlotte drummer Chris Wilson, lyrics about sucking at school feature heavily, and they’ve played a gig at the Playboy mansion, you won’t have much trouble completing the picture of this enjoyable but ultimately formulaic album.
