Standard Candle

Birmingham Alabama modern rock outfit Standard Candle have come up trumps with this their third release. Bringing together all the traits that made Tonic and the Reznik spun tunes of The Goo Goo Dolls so enormously popular, Standard candle have come of age and thrown loose their college band shackles. ‘Curtains’ contains four revised versions of songs from their previous two releases. All competently produced by Jason Elgin-the guy behind the recent Lynam album ‘Slave to the Machine-and lead by the intimate vocals of Josh Patrick it doesn’t take to much realise that something classy is going on here. From the opening chords of the Tonic-esque ‘Outside Looking In’, the Reznik inspired ‘Forgive Me’, through to the gloriously melodic ‘Do You Remember’ it is clear that Standard Candle have a sparkling future ahead of them.
