Flyleaf

Flyleaf
Artwork

Signing to the same label as Maroon5, gives few clues to this Texas quintet’s true identity. Formerly known as Passer-by, Flyleaf peddles female fronted modern rock with a touch of Goth metal, with a slightly more aggressive tone than the more commercially polished Evanescence. Unusually Lacey Mosley sounds like Avril Lavigne on opener ‘I’m So Sick’, follow up ‘Perfect’, ‘Cassie’ and commercial ballad ‘There For You’, whilst the remainder of the album is a curious melee of brutal guitar riffs ala Hole and sub commercial Evanescence style cathartics. Produced by the ever able Howard Benson, Flyleaf’s debut although competent does little to pull it away from the huge pack of modern rock bands that now reside in this overcrowded genre.
