Massachusetts band Rocket Ship just released an EP called A Night at the Pool. It's the follow-up to their full-length record that they released in 2017 called Worst Confessions/Best Intentions, but they’re really treating the new EP like their debut with no visibility for their old album on Spotify.
A Night at the Pool is undoubtedly a new direction for the Massachusetts quintet Rocket Ship. There's more of an incorporation of R&B infused into the sound here and the band sounds less like a pop punk anything and more like the U.S. answer to The 1975. That new sound is heard across these five songs on this EP. Dimitri Christo, the vocalist for Rocket Ship does a tremendous job fronting the band on this record. His range is great, but more importantly the passion that he emits with the songs on this record is impressive. Christo's voice, paired with the chemistry and the unique sound of the rest of the band makes something special here.
In addition to the band, the production on A Night at the Pool is remarkable too. Everything sounds impressive and on "I Told You You'd Be Back" the band really puts forth an impressive vibe on the song that matches something from an intro from The Who mixed with an intro with Yellowcard, mixed with something entirely unique and original.
Rocket Ship has put together an impressive EP with A Night at the Pool. The songs are fantastic, the sound is original, and they really have their own distinct style and personality. If you're looking for something new to listen to, this is a great place to start.
