Sleep On It

Pride & Disaster
Artwork

I’ve only really started getting into Sleep On It. I had heard the band in passing here and there, but I had no idea they were as good as they are. Yeah, it’s true that they’re pop punk goodness, but they’re a lot more than that. They’re on the Yellowcard side of the pop punk spectrum, meaning they play pop punk, but their sound features unique guitar riffs and melodies and the sound itself is like alternative rock with pop punk melodies. The band just released their second album, Pride & Disaster through Equalvision records last month and it’s in the upper echelon of albums released in 2019. It’s in the top 10 personally. Sleep On It’s latest records features ups and downs, big guitars, and bigger melodies to add up to an awesome album.

Upholding the Chicago tradition of great bands in the genre, Sleep On It is led by Zech Pluister. He’s a generational talent and I can’t get enough of his voice. Pluister’s voice can be compared to a cross between David Ryan Strauchman of Every Avenue and Jason Lancaster from Go Radio/Mayday Parade. His voice has a unique tone and it really adds levels to the bands sound. His songs sound more intense or sincere and his work overall is outstanding. Pluister’s work is great but you can’t really underrate the rest of the band either. The guitar work from TJ Horansky is RIDICULOUS. There’s some inspiration from bands like Mayday Parade, but Horansky still has a unique personality when he plays that’s just as fun to listen to as Pluister’s. Special mention also needs to be thrown towards Jake Marquis and Luka Fischmann both talented musicians that did an incredible job on this record too.

Sleep On It’s Pride & Disaster is ten songs of bliss for music fans who appreciate pop punk with alt rock leanings. Pluister’s captaining of the album is on point and his bandmates are exceptional too. Personally, I can’t recommend this album enough.
