The Band CAMINO is a group that has a lot of worthy buzz surrounding them. Running since 2016, the Memphis-based indie act came out hot with their debut EP. A big reason why is because their sound is as unique as it is addictive. Jeffery Jordan and Spencer Stewart share vocal duties and both have incredibly awesome and entirely original voices. Couple the vocals from both Jordan and Stewart with some solid production and it’s easy to hear why the band’s following is growing every day. They just released their debut LP for Elektra called tryhard and it’s a terrific listen with some new songs and some retreads that have been assembled from the band’s up to now.
tryhard is good for several reasons but it’s set up perfectly by the opening song. “What I Want” features some dramatic production that has a resonance. It’s a goosebumps worthy song that will be a lot of people’s favorite. That’s in large part due to the vocal, but you can’t undercut the production or the instrumentation either. Other than that song, there are seven others here that are all great. “Hush Hush” has a nice chorus and it could turn into something on pop radio soon. “Daphne Rosen” is an older song, but it’s impactful “Honest” and “See Through” have been singles leading up to the release of the record and they’re both addictive and written extremely well. “Haunted” is the most unique song on the record, it’s slightly reminiscent of something from the mid 90’s but with updated production. “Farsighted” and “Break Me” aren’t spectacular songs, but they make their mark at the end of the record as solid album tracks. Overall this is 30 minutes of music that’s well worth listening to.
The Band CAMINO’s tryhard is a great record. It’s a big record from a band with a big sound. Hopefully people pay attention to this; they’re worth paying attention to.
