Mirror Mirror is the new EP from Norman Matthew's project As Strange As Angels. Formerly of Murder FM, As Strange As Angels is Matthew really going out and trying to do something personal with his music, a first for him. It's active rock that's coming straight from Matthew's soul and that immediately makes it something worth listening to.
These four songs are darker songs about Matthew going through the end of a relationship and dealing with some depression while coping with the daily grind of being a responsible adult. You can really get a grip on pain and emotion pouring out of Matthew's soul on "Love and Death" and "Days Go Bye."
Sahaj Ticotin from RA produced this record and he did a tremendous job. As Strange As Angels features a lot of thick guitars but it also features a lot of piano too, what's interesting is how prevelant the piano is. The guitars punch you in the face, but it's still the piano leaving the impression sonically. Drums have been recorded remarkably well on this EP too. The synths are fine, but the actual instrumentation is top notch here.
As Strange As Angels has something special working with Mirror Mirror. Matthew's already working on the follow-up music to that release and it will be interesting to hear where he takes the project next. Either way, with the help of Ticotin, there's something really special brewing with As Strange As Angels.
