Glass Animals’ Dave Bayley recently took to Instagram to share a video from the third episode of his “Quarantine Covers” that features his performance of his idol Bill Withers’ “Lean On Me.” Bayley said he picked that song because Withers was one of his favorite songwriters. “He’s one of my favorite songwriters of all time…. He’s a genius and by all accounts, he’s one of the nicest people to have ever worked in music,” he wrote on Glass Animals’ Instagram page. Glass Animals previously covered “Heart Shaped Box” from Nirvana’s 1993 album In Utero, and Lana Del Rey’s 2013 single “Young And Beautiful” from The Great Gatsby soundtrack. But the description on the video by Bayley says the Withers cover “is prob the most fun I had doing one of these so far. Its a bit rough and ready, but thats the idea.” Bayley, who performed from his London studio, where he’s under quarantine amid the coronavirus pandemic, said he played the song to pay homage to the “super simple, but very clever” original recording, which was a No. 1 hit in 1972. Withers, aged 81, passed away on March 30 due to heart complications. Copyright(c) 2020 RTTNews.com. All Rights Reserved
