As reported in today’s Los Angeles Times, multi-platinum-selling artist TOM DELONGE has written and directed a live-action short film featuring “Teen Wolf” star Tyler Posey. On October 13th, DeLonge will premiere an exclusive scene from the yet-to-be-titled film at the Grammy Museum in downtown Los Angeles.
The film, due for release later this year, also stars Dylan Sprayberry (Man of Steel), Taylor Spreitler (”Melissa & Joey”) and Samantha Logan (“The Fosters”).
Posey, best known for his starring role as Scott McCall in the hit MTV series “Teen Wolf,” will play Poet Anderson, a character DeLonge created and introduced last fall via the award-winning animated film, Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker. Winner of Best Animated Film at the Toronto International Short Film Festival, Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker is about a young boy who is a Lucid Dreamer that can tunnel between the Waking and Dream Worlds, an alternate universe created by mankind’s shared unconscious thoughts.
It’s worth noting that the live-action film has a completely separate plot line from its animated predecessor. DeLonge describes it as “a brief and modest look into the mythology of the Poet Anderson universe. Meant to be a bit ambiguous and artistic, the plot traces the edge of a girl having recurring dreams of a boy at her school. While the dreams are romantic, fun and adventurous, a real threat exists requiring someone there at all times to protect her.”
Enter Posey as Poet Anderson. “As a big fan of Tom’s, I knew all about the Poet franchise and couldn’t have been more stoked to be a part of it,” he says. “And I was so humbled that he picked me to bring Poet to life. It was nothing short of a dream to work with him, let alone having him compliment me on my work and feeling like a true friend of his rather than just a work partner. He's a real genuine, ambitious and inspiring person that I love calling a friend.”
“I was introduced to Tyler through some common friends, says DeLonge,” and after a brief conversation it became very apparent we needed to work together. He was a passionate guy, and desiring opportunities to create art that was out of the box and forward-thinking. This made him a great match for the way I think. Tyler, as a person, has a gravity and calmness that came through on this film. He added ‘cool’ to the Poet character, a steady hand of youth and bravado. The emotional range he brought showed the heart, and passion for what a ‘Poet’ does…and is.”
Next up for DeLonge is the much-buzzed-about novel Poet Anderson …Of Nightmares (Simon & Schuster), the first of a planned trilogy of YA Poet Anderson adventures co-written with New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Young. Set for an October 6th release, the novel explores an unknown world where dreams meet reality and the disappearing chasm in-between. DeLonge will be discussing and signing copies of the book at the October 13th Grammy Museum event.
DeLonge’s band Angels & Airwaves just released a companion EP for the novel titled ‘…Of Nightmares,’ sections of which will appear in the new film.
follows last year’s Angels & Airwaves album, The Dream Walker, which hit No. 1 on iTunes.
