AA: How do you feel about the current modern musical landscape?
KatB: Since I grew up in the age of computers, I really dig the modern musical landscape. We are in the first era of streaming, which makes tangible cassettes, CDs, and vinyls almost a luxury for listeners. This at first can be frustrating for the musician, however, it does make music more accessible to the masses. Listeners are now curating their own tastes rather than relying on the radio to do it for them. Indie artists, like I, are able to showcase the entire catalog of one’s music and send it out for review with ease. Actually, last month, I mailed in a physical album to Sirius XM radio. They still ask for physical submissions. I thought to myself, it’s cool most stations ask for streaming links via email. It’s pocket friendly, independent artist friendly. Also, it’s great because streaming platforms report back to me the analytics of how my songs are being received. I see what my fans are vibing out with, and it looks like they have good taste.
AA: Please share with us one unique thing about you that most of your fans might not know.
Katb: Ready to get personal? Something potentially very unique about me… is the fact that I am a part of AA. I will be one year sober from alcohol on September 24, 2019. The gift of recovery has been such an absolute blessing on my life. It continues to be a blessing each day. I have reconnected with my higher power and that higher power expands me through dedication and gratitude. In this same air, it’s cool that AA’s foundation is based on three principles. Unity, service, and recovery. Those three things are ultra relevant to my mission as a musician and artist. I am grateful to now be able to discover that path in every realm of my life. That being said, I am here to help guide and give back by walking newcomers through the steps. I can point you towards help in your area.
AA: Tell us about your new book as well!!
KatB: Thanks for asking! My newest book release is titled “Project Non-Arch: Operation Clown School”. It will be available on Amazon Books and signed copies via my website on September 13, 2019. The book is a long form prose poem that opens up about my perspective on social conditioning in America. When we look through the framework of our lives, what thread leads us back to who we are? By stripping away the person that media informs us to be, we find our beautiful and multidimensional selves. This book is my way of unraveling the tangled up yarn of self, lying it out to dry, and embroidering a tapestry to proudly hang above the stage of my presence.
