Twenty One Pilots have designed a scintillating online scavenger hunt for hundreds of thousands of their fans around the world.
Earlier this week, Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun took to the official Twenty Pilots Instagram account to share the cryptic message "LOC-061-220-2012P" with their fans, as their most recent single, "Level of Concern" (shortened to "LOC") played in the background of the video. Fans were quick to realize that the code must point to the release of new material in relation to the song at 6 PM on June 6, 2020.
As predicted, the band's official YouTube channel live-streamed an hours-long video on the date at 6 PM, in which a vintage television set flashed the phone number "1-877-LVL-CNRN" for fans to call.
At the 13-minute mark of the video, viewers also received an audio message, saying "Welcome to Level of Concern... want to play a game? Anxiety, confusion, excitement, anxiety, anxiety, confusion, excitement, anxiety, confusion, excitement, anxiety, confusion, excitement. You are most likely experiencing Level of Concern. We thank you for your participation and interest."
When fans attempted to phone the number, it was revealed to them that the team has "hidden codes all around the Internet for you to unlock new levels." They added that "this game is certainly madness, happiness, paranoia, and fun. Good luck."
From the description of the same video, users were led to a mysterious website, which allowed them to download a .zip file upon entering the code from their previous Instagram reveal. The file, when extracted, contained behind-the-scenes pictures of the duo from the recording studio, as well as an audio clip that simply repeated the words "Level 1."
It is speculated that there are 19 more clues to be discovered and solved, at the end of which fans will be treated to exclusive content from the band's upcoming album.
