Speaking with Rolling Stone, bassist Flea admitted that the group’s appearance alongside Bruno Mars at the Super Bowl was “one last blowout” before they buckle down to work on the new album. “We’re just about to go into a period of hibernation and make a new record,” he told the mag, adding that the band is likely going to break new ground on the release, as opposed to revisiting older sounds. The bassist added that RHCP plan to take “a little different approach to the writing process. We’re all looking forward to that.” The upcoming LP will mark their first release since 2011’s I’m With You
