Live From The Barber Shop Studios
One of the most overlooked albums of 2019 is Grayscale’s Nella Vita. The album is a classic and we’ve pretty much all but overlooked it here. Our bad. Since discovering it over the past year and a half or so there hasn’t been a piece of music that I’ve personally listened to more. That’s why it was cool to find out that they were releasing three reworked songs on their Live From The Barber Shop Studios EP.
The EP Features three reworked songs from Grayscale including “Baby Blue”, “Painkiller Weather”, and “What’s On Your Mind” and to say they’re different from their original versions is an understatement. The songs feature horns, piano, bongos, and a myriad of other unorthodox live instruments for the band’s genre. The way the songs were recorded lets Collin Walsh’s vocals breathe more and lets him explore the more sensitive side of his vocal. It’s light and airy but overall a blast to listen to.
The difference from these songs to the band’s original versions is night and day. It’s hard to say if there’s a preference from one over another because they’re so different. If you haven’t checked out Philadelphia’s Grayscale, you definitely should but start with Nella Vita and then check out this cool EP.
