Bad Suns

Mystic Truth
Artwork

I’m not sure there’s a band that’s as underrated as Bad Suns is after putting out two excellent albums. Their debut album that was released in 2014, Language & Perspective is great, their sophomore album that they released in 2016, Disappear Here is better, and the band’s third album, Mystic Truth is even better than their previous two albums.

Mystic Truth has a few differences to it from the band’s last two albums. First, they’ve scaled back on programming and synths noticeably. It’s still there on songs like “Hold Your Fire”, but it’s not the biggest part of the song. Second, there’s a lot of space in everything that the band is doing here. Nothing is over-produced, but not to the point that it’s minimalistic. It’s just called down.

Like any Bad Suns record, immediately the most noticeable trait is the voice of Christo Bowman. He’s ridiculously good on everything that Bad Suns has done to this point and with this album he’s better than he’s ever been before. His range is tremendous and the character he sings with is brilliant too. The songwriting is excellent here too. There’s not a bad song on this album.

Bad Suns deserves to get more attention than they get. Mystic Truth is an awesome album and one that you should be listening to right now.
