Redding Californian quartet Madside is the Flagship act for the newly formed Evo label, the same label that gave us the excellent Love45 debut album. This however ploughs a different furrow entirely;taking the aggressive elements of the nu metal genre and combining them with a more mainstream approach, to give a sound that embraces venomous guitar and melodic edge. Vocalist Mike Mathis-the undoubted star of the show- is equally at home belting it out on ‘Sinking In’ or the bombast of ‘Enemy’ as he is on the more introspective and, in comparison, less vitriolic ‘Deny’ or ‘Face It’, to produce a debut album that is one of the major surprises this year.
