A re-release it maybe, but moving to a new label that can offer a wider distribution makes sense, even though those in the know will feel slightly cheated owning as they do the previously released ‘King of Spain’ debut album. Several of the songs recorded for ‘King Of Spain’ were themselves re-runs of material that had appeared on e.p’s that the band had put out earlier in their career. So for the avid fan this album will be something of a disappointment, despite the album featuring two brand new tracks-the superb power ballad ‘Good Morning Again’ and the keyboard sprinkled modern masterpiece ‘Story’ replacing ‘Checklist’ and ‘Don’t Know The Way’ from ‘King Of Spain’. This minor tweak makes for a more cohesive and consistent album and there is plenty to admire. Sylvia Massy Shivy and Rich Veltrop’s production, Jon Hartman’s flowing vocal delivery and the exquisite keyboard interplay of Steve Oliver provide the necessary dynamic enhancement to well written songs like the live favourite ‘Slam’ and the spine tingling melodic rock of ‘Future’. Although this it isn’t an all-new affair, with its wider distribution it will give those who missed out the first time a chance to find out why this great band caused such a fuss the last time around.
