The Dirty Heads
This is an independent release so the production can’t really be evaluated- it’s not great, but it’s not horrible either, let’s just put it this way. Damian Giglio’s “Have You Heard” is great musically. Giglio can write a great hook musically- he’s at his strength when he does it right away on a song during the intro. The perfect example of that is “No Longer.” The few guitar solos he has on “Have You Heard” are great too- because it’s not just reckless strumming on a solo- it’s an actual melody and hook on the solo- “The One” is the perfect example of this. Musically Damian Giglio takes a few synths here and there and uses his instrument more than his voice to make the song catchy- think Duncan Sheik. My only problem with “Have You Heard” are the lyrics- I normally don’t like to attack someone else’s lyrics- because that’s an artistic aspect of a song, but some of the verses on Giglio’s “Have You Heard” are borderline terrible- “A Different Way”, “No Lyric” and “Comfort Zone” are all great examples. The bridges and even the choruses are great, but the verses are hard to get through. Giglio needs to work on his lyrics, but on the other hand he’s got an incredible talent writing actual music so that makes up for his lyrical shortcomings, so really you can say he’s about half way there.
