Casual fans of hard-rock & metal will claim that the best album to come out in the genre this year comes from super-group Hellyeah. The best record I’ve heard in the genre this year actually comes from West Virginia’s Bobaflex on their latest release “Tales from Dirt Town.” And really, this is my favorite album in the genre since the latest Shadows Fall record. Bobalex has more dimensions than anyone else doing metal these days- in large part because they have four guys on the microphone. Everybody switches up on songs or they are all on together, it’s a crazy listen with this going on, but it’s also highly entertaining. My other favorite part about Bobaflex is just their songs; they’re more retro than anything else. These guys will take you back to those late 80’s/early 90’s metal bands that just kicked ass. That being said, they make an open effort to be different with their vocals and with the structure to their songs. Bobaflex makes and open effort to be different and creative; that makes “Tales From Dirt Town” one of my favorite hard-rock/metal album to come out this year.
