Relient K’s latest offering and the band’s latest Christmas offering- “Let It Snow Baby… Let It Reindeer” is a welcome release into the world of Christmas music. Around this year there’s a plethora of meaningless music releases; best of collections, B-sides discs, AND the Christmas album. But Relient K’s album actually has a little merit, mostly due to the musical talents of the band and due to the vocal talent of lead-man Matt Theissan. I understand that most of the tracks are from a 2003 release from the band, and although those songs aren’t as good as the newer tracks recorded, for long-time Relient K fans they’re a welcome addition to the album. The newer songs are actually some of the best Christmas songs done in recent years, and that needs to be addressed. Once the first track, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” hits, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Thiessen’s vocals are nothing short of amazing on the track. Although Christmas music is Christmas music, if you enjoy it and you enjoy it a little more modernized, this is a perfect disc for you. If you’re not into Christmas music, but somebody is making you listen to it, I recommend this, because it’s more quality than you’ll get in a genre that’s generally seen as a money-maker.
