The latest addition to the Tooth and Nail roster A Dream Too Late don’t stray too far from the signature Tooth and Nail formula on their debut ‘Intermission To The Moon’. Emo tinged indie rock flexes its muscles backed up by familiar production ideals. However, like Far-less they bring something new to the game saving face by offering some neat eclectic variety. Like Oregon kissing cousins and label mates Falling Up, A Dream Too Late makes use of synthesisers but unlike Falling Up the sound is much more entrenched in 80’s new wave. Opener ‘14th & Knott’ reels in the listener with its harmony laden hook and synth patterns reminiscent of Shiny Toy Guns. Follow up ‘Do You Believe (In Ghosts)’ harks back to a time when Duran Duran was the staple of British pop radio. ‘Trendsetter’ echoes the same theme coming over like a new wave version of Butch Walker. At times Reid Anderson’s vocal style becomes a little tiresome and A Dream Too Late lacks real identity but you can’t deny the potential evident on the dreamy title track or the AFI-like ‘Airsick’. A Dream Too Late will no doubt mature as they tour and write together, evolving into a band that will produce more consistent material. ‘Intermission To The Moon’ is a good effort that bodes well for the future. One to watch.
