New Atlantic is one of my favorite new bands of 07. They’re intelligent, they have deep songs, and they’re overall musicianship is excellent. Their debut album for Eyeball records, “The Streets, the Sounds, and the Love” is a great debut. There are lots of great tracks on this album; track 1- “Cold-Hearted Town” is an awesome track as is the single “Wire and Stone” (which features Will Pugh of Cartel.) And pulling out an obscure reference, track 6 “I Won’t Be Back” sounds like a band from the late 90’s/early 2000’s that used to open up for Jimmy Eat World- Before Brail. The track that possibly steals the show though is actually track 9 “Late Night Television”- it’s intelligent in every way; music, lyrics, everything. Occasionally things on this disc get a little boring, but whenever that happens it recovers instantly. The key element for a successful indy band is an album that’s complete and thorough, and this album is definitely that. If you’re a fan of pop music then you should be a fan of New Atlantic. They’re like The Fray with some punk tendencies or like Cartel with some pop tendencies either way this is an awesome debut.
