The Dirty Heads
With a title that neatly reflects on the drug addiction struggles of lead vocalist Josh Ramsay, Chad Kroeger’s latest addition to his label roster is gutsy and honest with a uncommon rawness in an age of synthesised beats and studio trickery. With a reputation for non stop touring with the likes of Default and Three Days Grace and an undoubted enthusiasm for their trade, Marianas Trench have been rewarded with a number 3 Canadian singles chart hit ‘Say Anything’ and are well on their way to establishing themselves as one of Canada’s top rock bands.
Signed on the strength of potential on their 2002 self titled e.p, ‘Fix Me’ offers an original blend of raw hard rock, pop and punk with the odd twist for good measure. At times reminiscent of the now defunct Californian outfit Lefty, Mariana's Trench swaggers through the material on offer. The quirky Squeeze meets pop punk of ‘Decided to Break It’ the heavy crunch of ‘September’ or the Beach Boys-esque punk of ‘Shake Tramp’, as well as being strong compositions, offer vibrant dynamics and a keen sense of adventure. ‘Fix me’ is without doubt one of the surprise albums of 2006.
