I Love You.

Lauded in 2004 by Revolver as the future of American metal, the band were once sharp purveyors of eclectic metallic hardcore. On this, their fifth album, 18 Visions attempt to play a winning commercial hand by combining the seismic nu metal guitar sound with a more mature melodic approach, alienating fans of their hardcore past whilst broadening their appeal. The result is an album that feels disjointed, forced and manufactured. Def Leppard gang vocals sit awkwardly alongside the Korn-isms on songs like ‘Our Darkest Days’ or the incredulous AOR of ‘Broken Hearted’ whilst ‘Victim’-a hardcore version of Nickelback- is as painful as catching your manhood in your zip. In all an album that attempts to capitalise on the upsurge in the melodic modern rock genre, but ultimately fails because it tries far too hard
