Floridian modern rock outfit Storyside B are clearly focussed on being the next Christian act to break into the mainstream. Coming from the same Jeff Hanson’s Silent majority recording stable that spawned the Wind-up records successes Alterbridge and Creed, Storyside B have an impressive pedigree that appears to push all the right buttons. Lead by ex Flock of Seagulls touring bassist Lu Rubino-now a record producer in his own right, Storyside B unsurprisingly come over like a fluffier version of Creed on opener ‘Everything and More’ or the hooky ‘It’s Not Over’ whilst on the ballads, particularly ‘More to this Life’ the youthful naivety coupled to Rubino’s vocals airbrush the musical landscape with a Rooster-like quality. The overt Christian lyrics only occasionally impinge on the proceedings-‘You’re Not Alone and ‘Send Me a Sign’ being the worst culprits-whilst the main criticism of Storyside B lies with their obsession for mid-paced boy band type ballads that frequent the album. Ultimately an album that shows the bands potential whilst suffocating in its own commercialism.
