It’s become an oft used cliché when Swedish bands are referred to as “beating the American’s at their own game”, but in this case Cervello really do live up to the billing. Punchy modern hard rock with instantly memorable choruses and hooks set Cervello apart from many other Scandinavian pretenders and indeed their counterparts across the Atlantic. Formed by the two brothers Michel (vocals/guitar) and Tony (Drums) Baioni, Cervello come at you with a finesse reminiscent of ‘The Reason’ era Hoobastank on opener ‘Carry Me Home’ ‘C1’ or ‘The Cure’ whilst on the hard hitting ‘First Time’ and ‘Inside Out’ the overall sound is more akin to Shinedown. Drafting in Max Martin to write the commercial gem ‘Cause I Am’ seems like a masterstroke whilst ‘Stay and Bleed’ kills anything that Atom Smash has ever recorded making ‘First Time’ a fantastic addition to any modern rock fans album collection.
