It’s been three years since the release of Pop Evil’s debut album ‘Lipstick in the Mirror’, but it’s been well worth the wait. Metal with pop sensibilities is the order of the day and this is as good a release as you are likely to find from this genre of music. Indeed the band has toured with the great Judas Priest and there is a definite influence on display here, particularly on the speedy ‘Epitaph’ and the deliciously sexist cliché ridden ‘Bosses Daughter’. Mainstream rock fans are well catered for here with the single ‘Monster You Made’ or the The Cult-like ‘Daisy Chain’ and amongst the clinical Johnny K produced mayhem there’s a great deal of finesse on display. Leigh Kakaty’s vocals shine on the highly melodic ‘Purple’ or the hooky album closer ‘Next Life’ and aside from the filler of ‘Black and Blue’ the high standard simply doesn’t slip thoughout. ‘War of Angels’ is yet another album that should be on your shopping list if your taste extends to the heavier end of the mainstream rock spectrum.
