Flogging Molly’s “Float” was their best work to date and will go down as the best album they’ll ever make. I don’t think it can be topped for them. It was the perfect record for this particular band. The new album, “Speed of Darkness” is more in line with everything the band had released up to “Float.” It might not be as good as the band’s last album but it’s still pretty good. There’s a ton of variety here. No song on this album sounds like another song and everything is placed very well as far as a track list goes. To me, Flogging Molly has always been at it’s best when the band is in all-out punk-irish mode. The foot-stomping/aggressive songs have always been the tracks that I come back to more than previous ones- songs like “Don’t Shut ‘Em Down”, “The Power’s Out” and the title track are my favorites o this one and they’ll be the songs that I come back to off of this album. Flogging Molly’s “Speed of Darkness” doesn’t come off as it’s best work to date, but it comes across as another good release. That’s really all you could want.
