You Haunt Me
Sir Sly

Eddie Vedder’s new solo album “Ukulele Songs” has a very literal title. It’s Eddie Vedder singing very powerfully with nothing to accompany him (most of the time) but a ukulele. To say that it’s impressive for what it is… that’s a giant understatement. Vedder’s vocals have always been hugely powerful and emotional but when there isn’t an arena-friendly sound behind him, they command that much more attention. On “Ukulele Songs” Vedder sings his own songs for the most part but he does cover a few very old songs that play extremely well on ukulele. All of these songs, original and not, fit in perfectly for what Vedder was trying to do. They’re all breezy and enjoyable and perfect in length. All of these songs are relatively short with only two songs coming in over three minutes long and the longest song being 3:23. They’re short and sweet and they all have Vedder’s outstanding voice powering them. Most of “Ukulele Songs” is meant for casual listening and that’s essentially a very cool thing. Who would have thought that Eddie Vedder could produce something perfect for a casual listening experience? I don’t think anybody did. Who would tell him he couldn’t do it? I don’t think anybody would.
