California based Long Story Short splashed onto the scene with their debut album “What A Scene.” Perhaps what’s most striking about this band is the big, polished sound they’re able to achieve as just a duo. Vocalist/Guitarist Dan Luka brings strong vocals and stellar guitar while guitarist, pianist, and backing vocalist Nicky James rounds out the duo’s broad range of musical sounds. The album fires out of the gate with “Fall Awake” a charging rock song that will remind many of Switchfoot’s latest material. Next is “Caved In,” with a catchy back beat, layered vocals, and an unforgettable chorus, this might be the best song on the album, it’s no wonder the song has climbed to the top of the AA Unsigned Top 10 chart. Also noteworthy is “Running From The Sun,” a cleverly arranged track with an equally catchy chorus, that will remind fans of some of Lifehouse’s early work. The band shows their diversity with some slower tracks like “What A Scene” and “What Mattered Most,” both showcasing Luka’s vocals complimented by James’ on the piano. Long Story Short – this is a great album, and a very promising unsigned band to look out for in 2011!
