Honey from the Icebox
I Wont Follow
Foster the People's EP recently released by Sony is a very brief glimpse into what's going to come out from these guys in 2011. It's not exactly fair to judge it as an EP because A.) it's only three songs and B.) these three songs are sequenced terribly and don't really fit together in the least. So if you look at this EP as a body of work you can be pretty harsh towards it. But if you see this EP as three songs thrown out there for a preview of an album to be bought individually you can be more positive towards it. "Houdini" is a great track. "Pumped Up Kicks" is one of my favorite new songs from 2011 so far. And although I'm not crazy about the instrumental trance at the beginning of "Helena Beat", I still like what they're doing through the middle and end of the song. Foster the People's EP did its job. I'm now excited for the full album that's coming from these guys. It would have been nice to hear three songs that fit together a little better and for the price of this 3 song EP to be $1.99, but this is what it is and it shows off a great new artist.
