The message behind a new Allstate insurance ad was what prompted Lifehouse's Jason Wade to write a new song specifically for the spot.

The new Lifehouse track, "From Where You Are," provides the musical bed for the "Tall Lights" commercial, which will debut during this Friday's episode of NBC's "Friday Night Lights" as part of Allstate's new Teen Safe Driving. In the spot, teens are depicted in a variety of different situations until the end, when the voice of actor Dennis Haysbert, the campaign's spokesman, delivers the sobering message that "every year, nearly 6,000 teenagers go out for a drive ... and never come back."

"When you think commercial, you think Hallmark commercial, something cheesy," Wade tells Billboard.com. "But this was something I thought was a really good statement and I wanted to be part of. I knew I would be able to write something for it."

Wade says that in composing "From Where You Are," he tried to adopt a particular mindset. "I remember thinking, 'If I was a parent or friend of one of these kids (who died), how would I feel,'" he explains. "That was the emotion that came over me and that I tried to convey in the song."

After its Friday debut, the "Tall Lights" spot will be available for viewing at Allstate.com/teen, along with behind-the-scenes footage from the recording of the song and an interview with Wade. The track will become available on iTunes on Nov. 6.

Lifehouse is continuing to tour in support of its latest album, "Who We Are," which has sold 220,000 copies since its June release and launched the hit "First Time." Wade was in Los Angeles this week to film a video for the album's second single, "Whatever It Takes," which will be released to AC outlets on Monday.

Lifehouse will perform "First Time" at this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as the featured act on the U.S. Postal Service Float.
