Ohio based band July For Kings will return to their original name and sound after the band's direction changed in 2006 when lead singer Joe Hedges announced his solo career.
"We're going to do another July For Kings record and we are hoping to get in the studio in october once we get some logistical and financial things sorted out," lead singer Joe Hedges says.
The new album will be recorded this fall and winter, with hopes that the album will be released sometime in 2008.
For the new album, Hedges already has a concept of what the album should sound like, something that he's discussed with drummer Dan McQuinn.
"We don't want it to be a studio record--we want it to feel really organic and sort of live, like a great 80's pop/rock singer/songwriter album, maybe something along the lines of Bruce Springsteen or Billy Joel."
In April, Hedges released his debut solo album, Curvature. The album featured the musicianship of all of Hedges July For Kings bandmates, but because the sound of Hedges debut was so radical and different from everything he had done with the band previous, Hedges felt it wasn't right to release it under the July For Kings banner.
Now, just over a year since that announcement, Hedges has flip-flopped the band back to it's original name, and plans to return to more familiar sound.
"We just did about the dreamiest, weirdest thing we had in us, and it took us several years," says Hedges. "Now, I am just kind of ready to get lovey-dovey and party. That's where July For Kings comes in."
For those who may accuse Heges of making the move for purely for commercial reasons, Hedges says that has really nothing to do with the decision at all.
"In case you really care about artistic integrity and motivation, I can assure you that this is exactly what we want to do right now. I'm at a really good point in my life right now. I'm happy, active, creative, and I want to do a record that kind of captures that."
