After the release of their new EP Slow Motion Life (Part One), Nine Days fans have begun to wonder if there will be a “Slow Motion Life (Part Two)” in the near future. The band’s pianist Jeremy Dean explained that the EP is actually half of an entire album that the band plans to release in two parts.
“The name of the EP is Slow Motion Life (Part One), that means that there is going to be a part two, what we basically did is recorded a full album in two parts. The reason we did this is because it allowed us to A) to get some new music out to the people, and B) it allows us to get some money back to record the second half even better than the first half.” Dean told Alternative Addiction in a recent interview.
This is actually a very interesting marketing concept, and despite how much sense it makes, it’s a tactic that’s rarely seen in the music industry today by independent bands. Dean felt that it benefited Nine Days fans as well as the band.
“We actually love the idea because usually when people hear a record they usually listen to the first 6 or 7 songs and that’s all they have time to listen to.” Dean explained. “So this actually works out great because the first six or seven songs are on one record, and then we’ll come out with the next six or seven songs, and [the listener] can feel like they are listening to their new first six or seven songs.”
“Slow Motion Life (Part One)” marks the first time since they recorded their sophomore effort, “So Happily Unsatisfied” that all the original members of the band, whom all contribute to the song writing process, are back writing and recording together.
“We’re older now, a lot us have started families, we’ve kind of moved to different places in our lives, and we’ve sort of come back to this. It’s just great to have the five guys, the real five guys, back together again” Dean said.
He was quick to point out that the band’s success is due to the contribution of all five members, making their reunion so important.
“There is something intangible about the five players in this band; it’s one of those things where it’s greater than the sum of its parts. There’s just something magical and exciting about the way that it sounds.”
