Out of Red Bank, New Jersey, Young Rising Sons are currently making waves with their new single "High" and their self-titled EP that was released just a couple of weeks ago. Alternative Addiction recently spoke with Dylan Scott from the group and we talked a little about the single and why people seem to be responding to it.
"When people hear that song they think right away that it's a happy song," said the guitarist. "There is a happy element to it and a very uplifting element to it, but at the same time if you listen to the verses and not just a chorus it's not just a happy song. There's been something missing from our band for so long. We've struggled and gone through hardships. We came to a time where we decided to write a song about how difficult it was for us and how pushed around we were by the industry for so long. I think we accomplished that with this song. We're just saying that we were low for so long, but without that low there ain't a high. It's just something that came across and I think it works for everyone no matter what industry you're in or what lifestyle you live. You're always going to be down, but you have to wait for those highs to make those lows worth it"
That's not to say that Young Rising Sons have gone through the amount of business frustration that a lot of other bands have seen, but it's not to say that they haven't had their fair share of it too.
"I guess we're not a jaded band," said Scott. "We don't hold anything against anyone at all. We just realize that's the nature of the business. Sometimes people promise you things and then they never come to fruition. They promise you the world and a dozen roses and then you don't even get the roses. That's probably the best thing I can say about it. We're lucky now to be surrounded by a team that we trust."
