The Chapman family will always have a complex existence in music. That's partly due to Steven Curtis Chapman, the award-winning Christian singer/songwriter being the head of the table. Chapman carries a strong legacy of inspirational music that's spread both his faith and helped others find themselves. He still tours across the country with his music and he's been fortunate enough to be able to bring out two of his kids with him to join him on stage; his oldest son, Caleb and his youngest son Will. Caleb and Will have since struck out on their own starting a band known as Colony House. Being a part of the Chapman family music legacy carries a lot for Will and Caleb, especially after how their father and their family have shown their resilience in the most trying of times.

In 2008, the Chapman family dealt with a tragedy that's unthinkable. An accident in their home driveway led to the loss of the youngest Chapman daughter, Maria Sue Chunxi Chapman. It was a horrible event, but one that the Chapman family dealt with remarkable courage and perseverance. They turned something truly terrible into something that could give others hope. That tragedy is a burden that the family deals with on a daily basis, and for Caleb and Will it has an impact on their music to go along with all of their past experiences. Colony House tries to say something personal with all of their songs; after all, music isn't an identity, it's a language. Using music as a language is the biggest thing that Caleb and Will have learned from their father. Steven Curtis Chapman has used his music to talk to people and say something really important. That's what Colony House have attempted to do with what they've been able to make so far.

The band's backstory and their family ties aren't the things that Colony House brings up when they're introducing people to their work. Instead they let their music do the talking. According to Caleb, the band's single "Silhouettes" is the best introduction to Colony House that people can get.

"That was the first song for this new record that we had figured out all the way in the studio," said the oldest Chapman sibling while talking to Alternative Addiction. "We knew how it started, how it ended, and everything about it. That song steered us in a direction for the rest of the record. That was good for us. It gave us a rhythm. We knew we needed to capture something similar to that with the rest of our music. That song was a on stage during soundcheck, that was a song we wrote during those times. That song fits to be the first song on the record. It's light and it's a nice handshake song. It's kind of like, 'Hey, we're Colony House. It's nice to meet you. This is what we're about," added Caleb.

Go ahead and listen to "Silhouettes" below and get to know Colony House. The band's debut album, When I Was Younger comes out on July 22, 2014.
