Chicago's Empires has a big week this week with the release of their new EP, How Good Does It Feel? coming out on Tuesday and their television debut on the Late Show with David Letterman that same day. The band's full schedule this week add to what's already been a busy 2014. Empires has been out on the road touring the country since February, following up a steady work load of writing and studio work that only saw them play just a handful of shows throughout 2013.
The band's new EP contains the title track (which is also their current single) and it was produced by John Congleton (Modest Mouse, Explosions in the Sky.)
"We ultimately decided to go with him because he was someone we looked up to," said Empires drummer Mike Robinson recently talking to Alternative Addiction. "Working with him was a breeze. He was easy going and we were always on the same page. He had a lot of good critiques. We tend to add a lot of things when we're recording and demoing on our own. He was very into stripping things away rather than adding. That was a nice change for us. That allowed the songs to open up and breathe, lyrically, musically, everything."
The band also worked with Congleton on their upcoming LP Orphan that's expected to be released this coming Fall. Throughout the rest of the Summer you can catch Empires at Summerfest in Milwaukee, and Common Ground in Lansing, MI. The band will also be on the road in July with The Chain Gang of 1974.
