The Ready Set just released The Bad and the Better. It's the third album for Jordan Witzigreuter and his first for Razor & Tie. Alternative Addiction recently talked with Witzigreuter about his new album and one of his favorite songs on the release.
"I did the whole album with my friend Ian Kirkpatrick," said Witzigreuter. "I actually had the whole album done when I was still on Warner Bros. It became pretty clear that they weren't going to want to do things the same way that we wanted to do things. I made the switch to Razor & Tie and they were excited about it. They set a release date before I even signed with them. Everything we needed to have happen happened instantly with them. The album process though, everything's been done for months and months. I was excited to finally be able to put something out."
Jordan said it was a challenge for him having to sit on the music as long as he did.
"It's just one of those things. Everything was out of my hands. It was kind of rough, but now it's relieving that everything worked out for the better."
Jordan has different goals with his new record and because of that his music is stronger. Instead of making an album filled with the same song ten times his new album is different from song to song. Jordan talked about there being far less pressure with this album than with previous ones and he pointed to one of his favorite songs on the LP as proof of that.
"One of the most unique songs on the album is called "Are We Happy Now." The reason is because that I spent two or three years writing songs where it felt like I was chasing singles. I hated most of the songs that I wrote. With this song, I didn't want to think about that. I just wanted to write whatever came out. I wanted it be completely natural. It ended up being one of my favorites. It's gotten a really cool response so far too. It's about stopping and smelling the roses. When you're goal orientated and always looking at the big picture that can drive you crazy. It's about realizing that you need to pay attention to the little things that are going on too."
