Last week, Dave Grohl performed at Nashville's Bluebird Café, where he played a surprise acoustic set for a crowd of about 100 people. A camera crew from HBO was on hand to catch the impromptu performance, which is slated to air this fall.
The gig was filmed as part of the Foo Fighters project to record their upcoming album in eight U.S. cities.
HBO caught up with the band in various locales including Steve Albini's Electrical Audio studio in Chicago, Don Zientara's Inner Ear studios in Washington DC, and Rancho De La Luna studios in California. Studios in New York, Seattle and Nashville were also visited.
Grohl is directing the series, in which he and his bandmates "tap into the musical heritage and cultural fabric" of the places visited.
Grohl will also conduct interviews for the series, speaking with some of the artists who have recorded at each facility.
