Sum 41 lead singer Deryck Whibley has revealed that he was hospitalized for a month to treat his alcoholism.

The Canadian rocker revealed on his blog that he collapsed in his home over a month ago and was taken to a hospital, where he was sedated and hospitalized in the intensive care unit for kidney and liver failure due to alcohol abuse.

He posted several photographs of himself during the recovery period and said of his time in rehab: "I'm not preaching or anything but just always drink responsibly. I didn't, and look where that got me. (I never thought I would ever say that!)"

Whibley's former wife, Avril Lavigne, tweeted that she was proud of him for seeking treatment and staying sober: "Spoke to @Sum41 Deryck today. I am so proud of him. He is family to me and always will be. #StayStrongDeryck."
