Matt Hires has released a new EP titled, Heartache Machine this week. The EP features four new songs and is the follow up to last year's This World Won't Last Forever, But Tonight We Can Pretend. After spending six years with Atlantic Records, releasing two EPs and two full-length albums, the Tampa-raised musician is taking his music back to the independent level. It’s a brave new world for someone who just spent six years working with a large company, but one he feels comfortable with nonetheless.

Regarding the recent change, Hires said, “Making the leap to independence has been really freeing and invigorating for me as an artist. I love that I'm able to get songs from the studio and into people's ears in just a little over two months. It's definitely a little scary, but I think it's going to be really good for me and good for my fans. With 'Heartache Machine,' I feel like I was able to break into a totally new level of honesty in my songwriting and I think it comes through in the recordings.”

So far the singer/songwriter is adjusting to his new venture well. He’s not only crafted his first EP and has it ready for release, but he’s set to perform on three different tours this spring. Matt will be performing on a small run of intimate house shows starting this month. On April 21st, Hires will hit the road on a co-headlining acoustic tour with friend and collaborator, Alex Dezen from The Damnwells. After the acoustic tour with Dezen, Hires will embark on his first headlining tour with a full band in tow in years.

“I've been off of the road for about six months now, and I really can't wait to get out and start playing again. I was able to be a part of some pretty big tours last year. That allowed me to grow a lot as a performer. I'll be doing some house shows and some acoustic shows and some full band shows coming up, so it will be awesome to be able to share my new songs, (and old ones), with people in those different settings.”

Since his arrival onto the music scene in 2006, Matt Hires has been praised as one of the best singer/songwriters in the genre. His first album for Atlantic, 2009’s Take Us To The Start hit the top 10 on iTunes’ overall “Top Albums” chart and debuted in the upper half of the Billboard 200. His second album was led by the single, "Restless Heart." The song was an iTunes Single of the Week and was downloaded over 375,000 times.
