Green Day fronter Billie Joe Armstrong sat down with Rolling Stone magazine to discuss the 20th anny of the band's landmark album, Dookie.

Armstrong says he had rather low expectations for the potential success of the LP:

"I remember thinking: 'Let's just record this thing, and make sure we have money left over, so we can pay our rent, in case anything happens."

The album would go onto sell over 16 million copies and make Green Day one of the most successful punk bands of all time.

"Our fans have those times - 'Where were you when you first heard 'Basket Case'?" Billie added. "That's all I wanted - people to be affected by it, with as much passion as I put into it."
