Neon Trees front man Tyler Glenn has come out of the closet as a gay man. The pop rocker broke the news in an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone in which he explained that he was always attracted to men, but wasn't sure about his sexuality until his twenties.

"I had my crushes on guys throughout high school, but it was never an overwhelming thing until my twenties. Then I'd be dating girls and in love with my straight friend and it was the worst feeling in the world," he explained.

He also explained that he started coming out to friends and family members in October of 2013, when the band began working on their forthcoming new album Pop Psychology. The album, due April 22, reportedly deals largely with his life in the closet:

"I really love all of the sports figures that are coming out recently," Glenn added. "I appreciated (college football player) Michael Sam was like, 'I want to be able to go to the movies and hold hands with my boyfriend.' Even hearing him say 'boyfriend,' I was just like, that's cool."
