Sully Erna, frontman for Godsmack, says that the band has begun work on a new studio album. The LP marks the band's sixth studio effort, and promises to be "one badass record," according to Erna.

"Pre-production is finally over! We've officially started recording the new album! And it is going to be one bad ass record! Just sayin," Erna tweeted on Thursday, March 13.

He later added: "Off to the studio! Vocals start today. Rock n Roll better Watch out. Cuz here we come! AGAIN . . . . . Have a great day everyone!"

The band's previous record, The Oracle, hit four long years ago, but drummer Shannon Larkin says that the wait will be worth it:

"There's so many cool tunes it's going to be hard to narrow them down to the best ones."
