Kings of Leon have issued a statement mourning the loss of their grandfather. Caleb, Nathan, Matthew and Jared's grandfather Leon passed away on Thursday, January 9, according to a report from ContactMusic.com.

Drummer Nathan Followill took to Twitter to break the sad news and let fans know that their granddad will truly be missed:

"The world lost a beautiful soul today. RIP Grandpa Leon Followill. My heart is broken into a million pieces," he wrote in the post.

The rockers also made recent headlines when they unveiled their acoustic version of "Last Mile Home," a cut featured on the original soundtrack of the film, August: Osage County. The original version of the song is featured on the band's latest LP, Mechanical Bull.
