Gorillaz have released "Whirlwind," a previously unreleased cut from the sessions to their 2010 album, Plastic Beach. Fronter Damon Albarn debuted the track during a guest DJ spot on BBC Radio 2 over the weekend.
In addition to premiering the song, Albarn interviewed actor Idris Elba and Paul Simonon of the Clash. The entire show is available through the BBC's website.
Gorillaz recorded "Whirlwind" with the Syrian National Orchestra in Damascus. According to Consequence of Sound, the song sounds like "it's ripped from some psychedelic Spaghetti Western soundtrack."
Last year, Albarn speculated on the possibility of a new Gorillaz LP once he and Jamie Hewlett reconciled:
"Jamie wants to do other things and I understand. But you never know, in a few years he might have a burning desire to draw those pictures again, and as soon as he does that, as far as I'm concerned, there could be another Gorillaz album."
